The lights of the city fought to keep the darkness away. With it, the dangers and mysterious evils that prey in it. All was quite normal within the city; the regular hubbub of twenty-four hour traffic, car alarms, and noise from the nightclubs and bars on dark street corners.
The soft, quick pitter-patter of small feet interrupted the beat of of the night. The feet belonged to a young boy who looked to be no more than six or seven years. He had bright golden eyes and matching golden-blonde hair with a stouborn spit of hair that refused to ever stick down. There was a slight glow eminating- not from streetlights or buildings- but almost as if from the boy himself.
His smiling face revealed the excitement and joy he could hold back, anyone could see he was dying to tell someone, whatever it was. The boy's eyes were locked ahead of him and he was completely focused on his destination only a few blocks away.
The boy's footsteps and unusual appearance were attracting unwanted attention from menacing eyes in the crack of a dangerous alley. The eyes glowed red in the fearsome night with an inhuman aura. There were about ten of them crowding around to get a glimpse of the boy. They knew he was no normal little boy. Not only did the unusual glow tell them this, but also his strong scent intoxicating their nostrils, driving them mad. The monsters knew exactly what he was- and they hated him for it with a furious passion. He would have to pay for his ancestors' mistakes, no matter how young he was.
The boy was oblivious to these creatures and their devious plan; he continued his run to a large apartment building, now only a block away.
It happened as fast as it ended, the monsters were on him in a flash. Their claws and sharp teeth ripped and tore into his flesh, they were doing everything within their power to give him hell. The boy barely even struggled because he was so off guard. Plus it would only make the pain worse. He screamed and howled in pain but was muffled from the bodies surrounding him. Then he forced himself to slip away from everything and the pain became numb. Whatever the case, he would not allow the monsters the satisfaction of hearing him scream until the air was gone. His surroundings became a blur, and then slowly slipped away.
