Humans
Millions of years ago, when the earth was still a newborn, humans were among the first of its inhagitants' along with the fish, reptiles, and other animals. They were very simple beingswith no very special abilities. They lived peacefully amongst the magic around them. Today, though, they have all but shunned the concept of magic all together and live oblivious to what surrounds them.
Magicians
Magicians evolved from humans. During the beginning, humans did have an interest in magic. They thought that if it could be harnessed civilization and power would boom and prosper. Handfuls of humans dedicated their lives into studying its secrets. After much time and effort, they had developed an understanding of the concept and passed each passed along its findings to the next generation. After a period of time, the magic flowed in their blood and was eventually hereditary. The first name was ancient Greek, 'magos' or 'maga', meaning magical, and later evolved into 'magician'. They became quite powerful and very skilled in their art, but over 500 years ago- in the prime of their development- they vanished without a trace.*
Today, the magicians have all but died from exsistance. Their fame is lived through mostly by cons and illusionists, but a tiny spark still flickers in some generations' blood.
Things to look out for: Odd things happen around magicians, levitating objects, explosions, etc. (this is usually caused by the unconciouness of a magician's mind based on his/her emotions. They can have slightly pointed ears and when magic is flowing strong, may glow ( such as the midnight of the 7th birthday) and eyes can possibly turn bright gold.
(A magician's full power comes at midnight on their seventh birthday)

Shapeshifters
Shapeshifters were also at one time humans and in the beginning there were only eight of them. They came to be a long while after the magicians became established. The eight children stole some magic from the magicians and when they touched it, the magic altered their bodies and mind. They could hear, see, and smell at least twice as much as they did before, and their reflexes and instincts were sharper. But as they soon found out, it was not all that it cracked out to be. A few developed peculular cravings and temtations and they began to transform. (bird, cat, dog, shark, snake, bat, raccoon, spider) Years went by and soon the eight began to grow families. But out of greed, anger, and a thirst for revenge one family overpowered the others and nearly wiped out the other shifters. Afters centuries of breeding and healing, more species of shapeshifters bloomed so now almost every breed of animal in exsistance is known to shifters. Time is also slowly healing the first Eight. At this time, blood of the Eight is very rare (except in bat) and only shows every few generations. And for the first time since the beginning, all Eight shiters are back.*
Things to look out for: Shifters (even before their birthday!) will have characteristics similar to their animal. Occasionally, after they are 13, they will develop more physical traits such as ears or tail. Also, thei scent becomes stronger.
(The gene kicks in at midnight on their thirteenth birthday!! Once they turn eighteen their power will double and become resistant to the normal elements of life, such as time. It is super-duper hard to kill them!!)

Demons
(We're going back a little before the shifters, when the magicians were still around)
Lets face it; even as amazing and cool as the magicians were, they couldn't do everything. So with their magic, they created servants that looked like humans but were (veryveryveryveryvery) stronger, powerful, and resistant to the elements than other beings. They were made like this so that they could perform tasks the magicians couldn't handle and were able to resist most dangers if an experiment went wrong. Demons were also given a slight coating of magic and were able to shift into one animal. They had long life spans so they did not need replaced often and got their power as soon as they were born (so they could start their chores immediately). At first, the servants were completely loyal and their was a great bond between the creator and creation; but with time, the servants became weary of their tiresome work and wanted more for themselves, to see the outside world and live. The dream was pushed aside though and they continued toserve the magicians. More and more through the years it was becoming more prominant though that they were not pleased to stay the magicians' dogs; they were now doing everything for them since the magicians had become arrogant and lazy. They were no more just helpers or testers, the servants were now being forced to do everything while their creators sat back and took credit for their work. The bond was broken and the servants went on strike, running into humans, refusing to do work, and causing any kind of trouble. The magicians would not rerlent though and treated them as naughty children, thinking they would soon calm down. They wer wrong; the servants became more violent and terroized and destroyed anything they could touch. Many even went as far as to curse themselves so that they and their posterity could never again be leashed and remain free (not to mention evil.... hehheh ;D). They banded together and schemed to take out the magicians once and for all by wiping out the whole island on which they inhabited. Only then, when it was too late, did the magicians see them as a threat and before their creations came to the island, they hid themselves in the sky. When the exservants came, the city was abandoned and before they had time to comprehend what had happened, an impenetreble dome surrounded the beautiful island and it was then cast down into the depths of the ocean. After seeing their terrible mistake, the magicians decided that mankind would be better off without their power and most of them banished themselves in the sky forever (which is now known as Cloud-Nine). The magicians had unknowingly left another threat on the surface; the now foresaken demons who had stayed behind on land that were thirsty for revenge. Not many stayed behind and the ones that did were mostly the ones that had not rebeled against the magicians. The handful that had stayed on land for backup though were furious and swore to free their bretheren from the watery trap and seek revenge on their once masters.
Things to look out for: Demons have red eyes and incredible strength and resistance (they're like rocks!). Of course, if you run into an evil demon they will have nasty tempers and oftentry to destroy mankind.
(Okay, I know it is 'illeagal' in magic terms- not to mention near impossible- to create life, but you can see now understand why and tell that they definently paid the price!)
